Bioplastic vs traditional plastic
Bioplastic (PLA): fossil-free origin, industrial-compostable, food-safe, but heat-sensitive and requires composting infrastructure. Traditional (PE/PP/PET): durable, heat-stable, recyclable but fossil-derived; rPET recycled grade qualifies for ESG.
Bioplastic — fossil-free and compostable
PLA bioplastic from fermented corn-starch or sugarcane is fossil-free origin, industrially compostable (EN13432, 180 days), and food-safe (EU 1935/2004 + FDA). Ideal for branded cups, cutlery, packaging trays, and event-merch where ESG claims and compostability matter. Limitation: heat-deflection at 55°C standard, requires CPLA grade or paper-lining for hot drinks; needs industrial-compost stream (rarely home-compostable).
Traditional plastic — durable and scalable
Traditional PE/PP/PET plastic delivers durable, heat-stable, shatter-proof performance at lowest unit cost. Suited to long-life merch (water-bottles, kitchenware, sports gear). Fossil-derived, but recyclable in standard streams (PET widely accepted). rPET (GRS-certified recycled PET) qualifies for ESG-aligned merch programmes at 20-30% price premium vs virgin. Best for high-volume, multi-use merch where compostability is not required.
